Spinach - Dhall

This is of course a healthy dish because it contains spinach and dhall...It is hence rich in protein and Iron..

Ingredients

Spinach -1 cup
Toor dhall - 1 cup
Tomato -1 medium sized
Onion -1 small
Turmeric powder - 1 tspn

For tempering
Mustard seeds - 1 tspn
Urad dhall - 1 tspn
Red chilies - 3
Salt to taste
Oil for tempering

Directions

In a pressure cook add the toor dhall, spinach and the tomato..Fill with water such that it covers all the ingredients..Add a pinch of turmeric powder and a little oil and cook until u get 3 whistles..
When the pressure in the cooker is completely released, open it and mash all the ingredients well...Add a pinch of salt..
In another vessel add oil, mustard seeds and urad dhall..Once they begin to splutter add the red chillies and onions and saute them for a minute or so..Once the onions turn translucent add the sauteed mixture to the cooked dhall-spinach mixture...
This tastes good with piping hot rice or chapathis..

  2. This does sound very tasty. I'm definitely learning more about Indian cooking.

By the way, I didn't see a link to the host in your post. Would you please add a link to Ulrike with the words Weekend Herb Blogging. Thanks!
